HMAS Tarakan PDF Print

There has been at least one ship in the Australian Navy that has been named after the landings by the Australian Army at Tarakan in 1945. Whilst the 20th Brigade was not involved, the landings were undertaken by 9th Division troops who had served in the Middle East with the 20th Brigade.

The first was HMASTarakan (L-3017) which was a tank landing ship.  It was commissioned in 1946, and was decommissioned in 1954.  See it Wikipedia page.

This is a Landing Craft Heavy - HMAS Tarakan - L129. See its official page, and its Wikipedia page.

It was commissioned originally in 1973 and decommissioned in 1985.  It was recommissioned in 1988 and it currently in service.
