From September 2010 Caveant Hostes
The 70th reunion has been celebrated and what a wonderful success it was. So the thanks of everyone must go to our Secretary Steve, for the effort he put in to ensure that this occasion was to be something special. He so admirably succeeded. As well Doug Leslie was his usual efficient self, in organising the bus transport for our people from all over the city and returning them home after the event. Perhaps the most generous support came from our mentor in Toowoomba, Ian Chase and his brother Kevin, in continuing to carry out their job of getting people from Toowoomba and district to the reunion after suffering the death of the father and our mate, Les, on the day before our get together. This last three months has been a distressing time with the deaths of so many of our friends and comrades. Steve, Col Hadwen, Pat Collins and Percy Lyall and myself have attended all possible, and the thanks of the relations has shown that our attendance has been appreciated. One of the by-products of the visits to the different areas, has been the addition of new members to our club. This was evident at the reunion of three from Warwick. Also the number of veterans at the function was very pleasing including some we have not seen for a long time. Talking of assistance, I don't know what we would do without the ideas and experience of our treasurer, Greg Snow. Whatever problems we have had, Greg always has the answer. And while on the subject of treasurers, it was so good to see Doug and Doreen Smales with their son, Paul, up from Canberra, Doug having been our club treasurer for 27 years. Another couple of welcome visitors form Canberra were Trish Albert and her brother Lawrence, while Irene Parrish (Taffy's widow) came down from Townsville, and livened up our table. While I am aware that the journal this time will be a little late, this has been occasioned by the efforts that have been made to make the anniversary luncheon a goer. I hope I have been able to convey my grateful thanks to all concerned for their unstinting efforts in making what will most probably be our last reunion of such magnitude, due to the fact that we are starting to fall off the perch regularly. However, don't let that deter you from sending in your letters and comments, as we welcome them all and enjoy their content. And that means you too, Peter Pechey. Your handwriting is a joy to read.
