This email was received via the website.  The details that Lesley gives are absolutely correct (and new to us) and the Roll has been updated to reflect this.

Makes us wonder how many other members's details have not been collected over the years.  Thanks, Lesley!

Dear Sir

After reading an article in yesterday's Sunday Mail I checked my father's army documentation and noted that his posting at time of discharge was 2/15 BN 4 RFTS.  I searched online for more information about the Battalion and found this great website.  I checked the Battalion Roll and found that my Dad's name is not shown.  I would appreciate it if you could tell me if this can be amended, or am I incorrect in believing that his name should be listed.

When reading the Sunday Mail article I was unsure whether I had Dad's correct battalion, and was looking for some reference to 'Jerry the monkey' as this would have confirmed, in my mind, that this was the right battalion.  I recall Dad talking about "Jerry the monkey" on many occasions.  When I found the online website the first thing I saw was the mention to Jerry!

Dad's details are  -  SALMOND, Robert Gordon, born 01 Jul 1913.  QX15355.  Enlisted 26 Feb 1941.  Discharged  02 April 1943.

The Sunday Mail article mentions a Capt. Greig Smith.  My Dad often spoke of a Capt. Greg (?Greig) Smith, and told that he was often a driver for the captain.

Any information you can give would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Lesley Salmond
